Whatever that means

How do you define it, in feelings, thoughts or deeds?
Will you recognise it when the early seeds
Are planted, and your world begins to change
This powerful disorder that can leave you feeling strange
Incongruent emotions, your mind a tangled mess
And patterns of behaviour range from reserved to excess
A rush of pure adrenaline, a stab of searing pain
It will take you to the heavens, crash you back to earth again
And yet you seem conditioned to seek the force unseen
To hear the words “I love you,” whatever it is that means.

Author’s notes

Love – unfathomable, indefinable, incongruent?
This poem is a tongue in cheek commentary about love, after hearing the words “I love you…whatever that means.”

Let’s

Let’s not look at our past with anger and regret

Because you and I shared something incredibly special

Let’s acknowledge our mistakes and accept our challenges

We can learn from them and become stronger together as a consequence

Let’s appreciate we are different people from when we met

Stronger for our time together and wiser for our time apart

Let’s use this deep understanding of each other

To sort out our differences and connect more fully than ever

Let’s stop playing games with each other’s feelings

Our relationship was originally based on truth

Let’s just take this relationship and make it work

Through communication, honesty, trust and love

Number 1

People keep telling me to look after number 1
But how can I separate you and I, when you’ve become such an important part of my life
Together we are number 1
I’ve only ever wanted to be your equal
So it hurts me deeply when you think you aren’t good enough
We make a good team,
Complementing each other’s strengths and supporting each other’s challenges
So let’s both look after number one, together you and I

Lost

Lost without you in my arms
Missing you so much
I long to see your smile again
To feel your warmth and touch
I have this empty feeling
A space inside my heart
A sense a piece is missing
Whenever we’re apart

Together

Lying together in a passionate embrace
Open hearts begin to race
The tender look, that loving touch
No words could ever say so much
Two bodies closely intertwined
Completely lost in space and time

Simple gestures

A simple gesture means so much

A smile, a wink, a passing touch

Is often all it takes to feel

That love is special, true and real

Love is…

Love is…
…being caught in the sheer pleasure of a moment
…seeing beauty in all of nature’s creations
…an unspoken connection between 2 people
…easy, when you open your mind, heart and soul to its possibilities
…as it is and perfect as it is!

Crazy for you

I think I’m going crazy
Or perhaps I’m not at all
It’s probably down to feeling
All these symptoms of withdrawal
That may sound quite confusing
But it makes good sense to me
It’s just I’m missing you so much
I love you loads you see!

Was I wrong?

What we shared I thought was strong
Did I interpret it so wrong?
The intimacy of your touch
To me had always meant so much
Abruptly snatched away, no trace
Left of the passionate embrace
We shared when you believed in me
And how wondrous our love could be

Questions, questions

Do you love me?
Do you want me?
What are your doubts and fears?
Does commitment frighten you?
Or can you plan for years?

Do you need me?
Do you care?
When will you decide?
Will you always run away
To find a place to hide?

Do I love you?
Do I want you?
Will I always care?
Just open your heart and trust in me
I promise I’ll be there
